Elected Officials in Your Schools
Tell the Story of Your School, Your Students, and Your Families
The best political message that you can share with your senators is that schools are effective and efficient and students are engaged learners involved in rigorous and personalized experiences. By seeing your school’s great work, they can confidently support public schools in the legislature. You can involve your senators in the following ways, plus others:
Activities
- Open House
- Assemblies
- Special Presentations
- National Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss Day)
- Backpack Extra Mile Walk and Similar Activities
- Family Engagement Activities
- School Neighborhood Advisory Committee Meetings
Note: Make sure to follow all privacy guidelines for pictures, work, etc.
Messages
- Newsletters
- Artwork for Capitol Office / Letters from Students
- Copies of students work that might match a senator’s interest
- Emails
- Links to your web pages
- Booster club / PTSO fliers
If you are wondering about frequency, if possible, try to invite senators to at least one event a month. For some senators, it will result in several invitations a month. Especially during session, senators are very busy, so don’t be surprised if senators cannot attend. The invitation itself is valuable. Please do not feel obligated to create a special event for your senator. Take advantage of what you are already doing and share that with your senator. You all do great work. Your students all do great work. Just share that! If I can be of any help, please let me know.
