Governmental Relations and Community Engagement ­Committee of the Board Calendar and Work Plan

The Lincoln Board of Education intends that its positions on proposed legislation be effectively communicated to the Nebraska Legislature and other governmental entities. The Board may also direct the Superintendent to prepare legislation for introduction on its behalf. A legislative work plan will be prepared annually and presented to the Lincoln Board of Education. The work plan will describe the procedures to be followed in carrying out the lobbying effort during the legislative session.

Governmental Relations Meetings

May or June

End of year report on the Nebraska Legislative session, including LPS policies impacted by legislation; submission of the Work Plan for coming year, including Legislative Guidelines; Prepare for summer associations conferences (NCSA, NASB, etc.); include any potential local or federal issues and information about issues surrounding the election cycle.

June–December

Report on Interim Studies, including research and potential testimony; work on legislation for next session; report from other agencies and meetings with Senators or Representatives; include any potential local or federal issues and information about issues surrounding the election cycle.

January

Schedule meeting after 10th day of the legislature and include a report on newly introduced bills, prepare research and testimony for hearings, work on amendments for current bills, report about work with other agencies and meetings with Senators or Representatives; include any potential local or federal issues and information about issues surrounding the election cycle.

Monthly during legislative session

Report on new bills, preparation for hearings, work on amendments for currently proposed legislation; report about work with other agencies and meetings with Senators or Representatives; include any potential local or federal issues; include information about issues surrounding the election cycle. The Committee is invited to attend the GNSA meetings and luncheon with senators.

Quarterly

The LPS President, Vice President, and Governmental Relations Committee Chair will reach out to the federal delegation for Nebraska, including both senators and the congressional representative for Lincoln.

Annually

The Governmental Relations Committee will recognize the work of previous legislative session of the Nebraska State Senators representing district contiguous with the LPS District
